Milan concluded their pre-season preparations with an impressive 4-2 victory over Manchester United, the former club managed by current Rossoneri head coach Ruben Amorim. It was an important win that provides the team with confidence and morale with just one week to go before their first competitive fixture of the 2026/27 season: the league trip to Torino.
Following the victory, the Milan coach spoke to Sky Sport and highlighted the need to make decisions regarding several members of the Rossoneri squad:
“All four of them did really well during pre-season, but we have to make some choices. We are changing, and I think it is important to really make changes at this moment because we are at the beginning of a project. We have some young players who will get opportunities, and I have to create space for them. I still want to stress that they did really well during pre-season. However, as I told you when we returned from Jakarta, we have to prepare for the season. And with almost 40 players, it is impossible to prepare properly. So I feel sorry for the lads, but we have to do it.”
Among those excluded from Milan’s new sporting project is French midfielder Youssouf Fofana, who has been informed that he should find a new club through his agents and representatives. But what is the current situation regarding the Frenchman’s search for a new team?
According to Matteo Moretto, speaking in a video on Fabrizio Romano’s Italian YouTube channel, Fofana was personally informed that he would have to leave during this transfer window. At present, there are no advanced negotiations with any particular club, but Nottingham Forest, Newcastle and Juventus have contacted Milan to ask about the conditions for the player’s departure.
As for Juventus, the Bianconeri are trying to understand exactly how their incoming and outgoing transfers will develop. In particular, the situation surrounding Douglas Luiz remains one to monitor. Despite the Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti confirming him in a recent interview, the 'Old Lady' remains alert to the possibility that the Brazilian could leave during this transfer window.
Fofana is an idea for Juventus, and the Bianconeri club has held talks with Milan regarding his situation. However, that is not all: the two clubs have also discussed potential transfer scenarios and developments, and it cannot be ruled out that they could eventually work on a broader deal involving several situations, as relayed via Calcio Mercato.
