One of the biggest surprises of Milan’s pre-season has undoubtedly been Ruben Loftus-Cheek and his newfound importance within the team. The number 8 was expected to leave at the start of the summer, but these weeks of work under Ruben Amorim have completely changed his fate.
Loftus-Cheek’s revival as an attacking midfielder
The Portuguese coach has been using him as the right attacking midfielder in his 3-4-2-1 formation, with predominantly attacking duties and an intense pressing role when out of possession. As highlighted in today’s edition of Tuttosport, this is the position in which he has performed best throughout his career, scoring 11 goals during the 2018/19 season with Chelsea and 10 goals in the 2023/24 campaign under Stefano Pioli at Milan.
Milan rejected a bid from Coventry. Now a new contract is on the horizon…
During the summer, the Rossoneri club rejected Premier League interest in the player, following Ruben Amorim’s instructions. According to the Turin-based newspaper, Frank Lampard’s Coventry City had offered around €10 million for his transfer, despite his current contract running until June 2027.
His contract is now precisely the issue that will be addressed in the coming weeks. A new deal for Loftus-Cheek is on the horizon, with initial phone contacts already underway. Negotiations are expected to develop in September, with the idea of extending his contract until 2029 or 2030.
