Yesterday against Lazio, the first half was extremely difficult from the very start. Lazio started the better of the two sides and made the most of their opportunities, going into the break 2-0 up.
After the interval came the move that changed the match: Musah, Moreira and Pulisic were brought on, with Luka Modric, Estupinan and Loftus-Cheek making way. The second half was a completely different story, as the Rossoneri fought back to draw 2-2, thanks precisely to those who came off the bench.
Amorim's dilemma:
The coach will now have to ask himself why his starting XI so often struggles to begin matches with the right approach and impose the dominant style of play he wants from his team.
Some of his choices, Estupinan and Loftus-Cheek above all, were quite difficult to explain because they were not made out of numerical necessity, but rather reflected his determination to remain faithful to his footballing ideas, writes Milan Press.
Starting with Benfica, the objective must be to find the right balance. It is right to expect a lot from those who come on during a match, but in the long run, that cannot be the only winning move.
Amorim has spoken about needing time to win and needing wins to have time. Perhaps a paradox, but one that perfectly sums up the situation at the Rossoneri: the new project must be given the right amount of time, but its protagonists must also earn it.
