Carlo Pellegatti, the journalist, took to his Instagram profile to comment on Milan’s defeat to Benfica:
“Amorim is calling for patience. But, dear friends, patience has to be earned. A coach earns it when the fans see progress in the team’s play, see logical line-ups and see the best players on the pitch. Talking about rotation in mid-September simply doesn’t make sense. You can change one player, or you can start with the regular starters and perhaps rest them with half an hour remaining.
Then I don’t understand this: think about the humiliation for the players who were substituted at half-time. A player taken off at the break realises one thing: ‘I’ve been dropped.’ I can understand it in the 60th minute, but not like this. Patience has to be earned. Seeing so many of our excellent players on the bench, then trying to bring them on and recover from 1-0 or 2-0 down with six attackers... I don’t see any patterns of play, I don’t see anything. I often invite Luca Diddi to shed some light on the tactical and technical side of things, but this Milan... Just as Giampaolo’s Milan came to a standstill against Manchester in England (I don’t remember if it was in Cardiff), Amorim’s Milan came to a standstill in Wrocław. There, I saw what I wanted to see. After that, I haven’t seen anything.”
