Milan, Inter and Roma could soon have their own new stadiums. The two Milan clubs have been working for years to jointly build the new San Siro, while the Giallorossi have plans to build their new home in Pietralata, a district of the capital. However, the two projects are progressing at different speeds: in Rome, there has been a major acceleration after receiving the positive opinion of the decisive Conference of Services yesterday (work is expected to begin in March 2027), while in Milan, there have been weeks of waiting.

As 'La Gazzetta dello Sport' reports this morning, the common objective is to be ready to host matches at Euro 2032, but things need to speed up, especially for Milan and Inter. Milan mayor Giuseppe Sala is also calling for a major step forward, having stated yesterday: "I hope the clubs will show the new stadium rendering very soon and guarantee that the facility will be ready for the 2032 European Championship." Rome mayor Roberto Gualtieri, meanwhile, was able to provide more precise timelines, which are not yet available in Milan: "The stadium will be built, the timetable could be very fast, and it will be a beautiful project. We are really happy; now we need to get straight to work and prepare for the start of construction in 2027. The stadium will be among the most beautiful in the world and could be ready by 2029."

Where do things stand with the new San Siro?

The plan calls for the new stadium to be completed in 2031, just one year before the European Championship (as required by UEFA). To meet this deadline, the Municipality and Region have agreed to complete the necessary procedures by summer 2027 so that construction can begin in the second half of the year, after the end of the football season. La Rosea takes stock of the situation: "The machinery is therefore already in motion, having started when Stadio San Siro Spa submitted the Implementation Plan on 16 March and the municipality began its assessment process along with the strategic environmental assessment. This will be followed by an examination of the technical-economic feasibility project, the environmental impact assessment under regional jurisdiction, and the Conference of Services. All the works are obviously interconnected: from the relocation of the Patroclo tunnel to the construction of the new stadium and, only afterwards, the (partial) demolition of the Meazza."

While awaiting all these technical steps, Milan and Inter will unveil the rendering of the new San Siro by the end of October, allowing all fans to begin forming a concrete idea of what their new home will look like.
