The Spanish defender, however, has transformed a defence that had struggled badly during the second half of last season. With his characteristics perfectly suited to Amorim’s style of play, he is also helping his fellow defenders improve.
This morning, 'Corriere dello Sport' published a piece dedicated entirely to Mario Gila, highlighting the clear benefits the Spaniard has brought since arriving at Milanello. The headline says it all:
"Gila is already an authority in defence."
The article underlines the obvious upgrade in the Rossoneri’s back line and the fact that the team’s overall performance improves when he is on the pitch. He has the qualities Amorim demands: aggressive, comfortable on the ball and unafraid to push forward. There is still some fine-tuning to be done, with his eagerness occasionally going too far, but those are aspects the Rossoneri coach will work on.
