AC Milan defender Matteo Gabbia granted an exclusive interview to those at DAZN. Here's what he had to say:
“The work with Amorim? It is going well. We are happy with what we are doing, but we are also aware that we need to improve in every aspect. The season has only just begun and, when you change manager, you always need a bit of time. We are trying to shorten that process through hard work and dedication, and you will see the things we are working on.”
What impact have the new arrivals had? Is there anyone who has particularly impressed you?
“It is difficult to name just one. They are all good lads who have brought something both on and off the pitch. They all have great technical qualities, but it is also important how they interact with others and how they conduct themselves. I am happy with all of them, and I am very happy that Modric stayed. We are a good group and now it is up to us to have a great season.”
Gabbia, how are you working on the defensive phase?
“The manager is trying to find the right balance defensively as a team. We have changed some things compared to what we were used to. We are also trying to eliminate some of the shortcomings we have had at the start of the season. We are eager to follow the manager, train well and improve defensively as well.”

Your start to the season was affected by an injury...
“It was a difficult month and a half because I wasn't feeling well and couldn't play consistently because of this ankle problem. Now I am happy to have resolved the injury. The international break came at the right time because it allowed me to train and completely get rid of the ankle problem. When we resume playing, I expect to be at 100%.”
What impact has Mario Gila had?
“We already knew him because he was playing in Serie A. He has great qualities and is an exceptional lad who is very eager to do well. As a footballer, I already knew him, so if I have to say what surprised me, I would say it was the person because I didn't know him before. He is a good lad who always tries to bring positivity to the group. We need people like that, as well as good players on the pitch like him.”
Do you feel like you are an example for others? Gabbia said:
“I always feel responsible for setting an example. More than explaining things with words, what matters is how you behave and how you deal with certain situations. I always try to be an exemplary professional and give my best. Although I have to say that it isn't really necessary, because all the lads know where they are and what this shirt and this club represent. We all want to have a great season and enjoy some satisfying moments.”
Who are the rivals for Champions League qualification?
“There are many well-equipped teams. However, we have to remain humble, focus only on ourselves and also remember how the last few seasons have gone, especially last year, when we played many good matches, but in the end you need clarity, consistency and professionalism right until the finish. We have to work well and be eager every day to do our best. Then, match by match, we will see where we are. Milan's objective is to win every game, and we will try to do that every Sunday and every Thursday.”
