The Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport in this morning's print edition chose to publish the following headline:
“Moreira is growing: the left flank is his playground”
The Belgian player, in fact, was one of the few positives from the match away at Sassuolo.
The ex Strasbourg and Chelsea talent, who made his second start, showed great pace and plenty of initiative down the left flank. For weeks, there has been discussion about his position on the pitch, but the feeling is that he is decidedly more comfortable on the left than on the right.
After the match against Sassuolo, Ruben Amorim commented on Moreira’s movements during the first half:
“We know that Ramos and Pulisic like to get on the ball, and sometimes you need another player to make the opposite movement by making runs in behind. In the second half, I saw that we had more possession, spent more time closer to the opposition’s penalty area, and in those situations it’s good to have players who think more like midfielders and attacking midfielders rather than runners. Sassuolo closed down the central areas very well in the first half, which meant Estupinan was free out wide on the left."
