Speaking to Sky Sport directly from Salzburg, Peppe Di Stefano revealed the latest updates ahead of this evening’s match between Salzburg and Milan, which kicks off at 18:45 at the Red Bull Arena. Here is what he had to say.
“1,500 Milan fans are here, and the away section is sold out. The fans want to be close to the team in Europe, where Milan still have an incredible reputation. CEO Calvelli was also in attendance at the UEFA lunch
Milan are effectively obliged to win tonight. They have been a little unlucky with the teams they have faced, coming up against Champions League-level opposition: Benfica in the first match, Salzburg today and Bournemouth next week.
Milan, however, must try to get a result even with some rotation, because that is what Amorim has decided to do, unless he changes his mind in the coming hours.
In defence, Tomori will make his first start, alongside De Winter, Pavlovic and Bartesaghi. In midfield, there will be Jashari, Rabiot, Hutchinson and Loftus-Cheek, with Cisse and Camarda up front. It could be a back three or a back four.
Camarda is the big talking point today. He will make his first start of the season, and his first in Europe.
It is a delicate and important European match in which Milan cannot afford to get things wrong.”
On Salzburg: “Salzburg are a very young team, with an average age of 23.1. At the moment, they do not seem to have any outstanding talents like Haaland, but they are a great breeding ground for talent. They appear to be going through a slight dip in form, but they have an identity, know how they want to play and are quick.”
