Two factors influenced Milan’s performance against Bournemouth last night. On the one hand, the starting line-up choices, partly dictated by the fixture schedule and the various injuries the Rossoneri have suddenly had to deal with; on the other, Mike Maignan’s disastrous blunder, which saw him sent off in a manner that a player of his experience should never allow himself to be sent off, especially when wearing his team’s captain’s armband.
This morning, Il Giornale identified, in broad terms, the two reasons behind Milan’s heavy defeat. The general-interest newspaper’s headline focuses primarily on Maignan and his foolish act:
“Milan, one red card too many: Maignan betrays the 'Diavolo'."
The subheading shifts the focus to Ruben Amorim’s decisions: "The captain puts his hands in an opponent’s face, the referee sends him off, and the Rossoneri find themselves 2-0 down and reduced to 10 men. Amorim makes excessive changes to the line-up, and the problem of poor starts to matches returns."
