In the two Supercoppa matches against Juventus and Inter, Theo Hernández had given the impression of returning to that dominant player on the left flank that we had come to know and appreciate during his seasons in the Rossoneri shirt.
By February 14, however, we might reluctantly have to call it an illusion. In games against Cagliari, Dinamo Zagreb, and most recently Feyenoord, just to name a few, the Milan full-back once again appeared inattentive and distracted, or worse, disinterested.

The fact that Conceição decided to entrust the flank to Mike Maignan is no coincidence; rather, it is a clear message that perhaps has been underestimated. In light of these more than disappointing performances, La Gazzetta dello Sport wrote this morning that Theo Hernández’s future at Milan is now more uncertain than ever.
The newspaper even suggests that the outcome is inevitable: at the end of this season, the Frenchman and Milan are set to part ways after six years together. Theo is under contract with the Rossoneri club until 2026, earning over 4.5 million euros per year. To extend his stay, he would want a salary increase, something that, at this point, is unjustified given his recent performances. And this only works against him, as continuing at this level risks deterring potential suitors, such as Bayern Munich, which has reportedly dropped out of the race after renewing Alphonso Davies’ contract.
He would need to showcase his best qualities to make up for what now feels like a debt owed to Sergio Conceição. In the meantime, Theo Hernández has been chosen by Milan as the face of the club’s launch of the fourth kit, in collaboration with the renowned fashion brand Off-White.
