After 19 minutes, Milan was already trailing 2-0 at the "Maradona" against Napoli, with goals from Politano and Lukaku punishing the Rossoneri's embarrassing defensive phase. Then, thanks to Leao, who came on at the 45th minute, there was a reaction in the second half.

But, Luka Jovic's 2-1 goal, assisted by Theo, came too late (in the 84th minute), even after Santiago Gimenez missed a penalty. With this defeat, Milan sees any remaining hope of a fourth-place finish vanish, as relayed  via MilanPress.it.

Shocking start for Milan: Napoli scores after 1'

The main tactical change of the day was Napoli’s return to a pure 4-3-3, with Raspadori on the bench and Neres starting on the left. However, it was from the opposite flank that Conte’s side immediately found the opening goal, barely after the match had begun. A classic combination down the Di Lorenzo-Politano channel: a long pass from the captain, deep movement from the former Inter player, who got the better of both Theo Hernandez and Pavlovic—whose marking on the play was unacceptable (especially so early in the match)—and slotted a precise left-footed shot into the corner past Maignan. The 1-0 lead after just a minute was only a preview of what was to come, as Napoli would go on to dominate for much of the match.
