Ruud Gullit, who during his career also wore the shirts of Milan and Sampdoria, commented as follows to Tuttosport on the disappointing season of his two former teams:

"I had a good time at Samp, but my one true love remains Milan. I never would have imagined that the Ligurians could find themselves in this situation. I’m really sorry. I think their problems, in proportion, are the same as Milan’s: in Italy, the kind of owners we used to have are missing. At Milan, they would need someone like Berlusconi, the best president of my career. In short, a man who cares about Milan and works to make it competitive in Italy and Europe."
Gullit on Milan's season:
"The fans are not happy, and I understand them. We’re talking about a great club that has accustomed them to fighting every year for the title or at least for a Champions League spot. The fact is that American ownerships – as seen in other European clubs too, including in the Premier League – fail to fully understand the DNA of the clubs they come to manage. For them, it’s just business... It bothers me to see that important figures, like Maldini – who made history with Milan – have been pushed out. Ibra has found himself in a role he had never held before; I think he’s doing his best. Milan is not a bad team. Honestly, I don’t know what happened this year."
