Tuttosport: Milan keen on beating Inter in race for Leoni

The biggest news in the Rossoneri camp in recent hours is undoubtedly the major operation that could be finalized with Como, who have set their sights on two Milan players: Malick Thiaw and Alvaro Morata. Como are serious, and the Rossoneri club, faced with the right offers, have no intention of putting up resistance—especially because the goal, should the German centre-back depart, would be to immediately move for Giovanni Leoni, the young defender from Parma.

This morning, Tuttosport provides an update on the situation and the hot axis between Milan and Como. The team coached by Cesc Fabregas has shown serious interest in Malick Thiaw, a player the Catalan manager greatly appreciates, and for whom the Suwarso-owned club is ready to put forward a €25 million offer, excluding bonuses. Based on just that fixed amount, Milan would stand to gain a capital gain of approximately €20.7 million. That money would be immediately reinvested in Giovanni Leoni. Additional funds could come from the potential sale of Alvaro Morata: Como are ready to take him on loan with an option that could become an obligation to buy for €10 million plus bonuses. However, there is an obstacle here—Galatasaray, where the striker is currently on loan until January 20. Milan would need to negotiate with the Turkish side to end the loan early.

Leoni, beating Inter to the punch

As mentioned, the proceeds from these two potential departures to Como would pave the way for Giovanni Leoni’s arrival, both in terms of numbers and finances. On the first front, because Thiaw would need to be replaced—as Tare stated, if a defender leaves, another comes in; and on the second, because with about €35 million (excluding bonuses), Milan would meet Parma’s asking price for the 2006-born defender. Of course, a negotiation would still need to be structured, with Parma’s demands potentially being reduced to €30 million. Crucially, Milan would also get the jump on Inter, who are also very interested in the player: Inter would leave him on loan for a year, while Milan would bring him straight into the first team and play him, given the level of investment. That could make all the difference.
