AC Milan's Christian Pulisic, spoke to the microphones of La Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview where he discussed several topics, such as his goal for the new season, working under Allegri and much more:
What did you think of Milan’s performances against Arsenal and Liverpool?
“We played well in both matches: we were solid especially in the first half, defended well, and created a few chances going forward. At this stage of the season, I think it’s important to face strong teams, and as a start, we can be satisfied.”
So, are you on the right path?
“Definitely, even though it’s still very early to make any judgments. Right now, the important thing is to prepare as best we can because when the league begins, we want to be in the best condition possible.”
What are your first impressions of Massimiliano Allegri? Pulisic commented:
“I think he’s started off on the right foot. He’s a coach who has managed many champions, he knows how to talk to players, how to build the right connection with the squad, and he’s focusing on giving Milan strong defensive solidity, an essential trait if you want to create chances to score.”
Massimiliano Allegri pointed out the excessive number of goals conceded last season right from his first press conference.
“He’s right because if we want to improve, we can’t allow as many goals as we did last season. It’s something we all need to be mindful of and work on, not just the defenders, but the whole team, because defending is a collective effort.”
In 2024–25, you scored more goals (17) than in all three of your Chelsea seasons combined (15).
“From the start at Milan, I’ve been given freedom and I feel everyone’s confidence, from teammates to the coach, from the management to the fans. The club gave me a big opportunity by signing me, and I have a responsibility to improve every year and work hard to always take a step forward in my performance. If things go well, it’s not a surprise to me considering what I do throughout the year and during preseason to be at 100% and give everything I’ve got.”
So, do you feel more integrated, more at ease, more at home, at Milan compared to Chelsea?
“Absolutely, although it’s easier to say that after scoring so many goals (32, editor's note) over the last two seasons. I’m having a lot of fun at Milan, and I want to keep going like this, pushing myself to the max.”
You scored 15 goals in 2023–24 and 17 in 2024–25. What about 2025–26?
“My goal is always to do better.”
What have you improved since arriving in Serie A which is a league many say is more tactical compared to the more physical Premier League?
“I actually think Serie A is very physical and tough too. Since coming to Italy, I believe I’ve improved in decision-making when it comes to finishing actions. I mean choosing between taking a shot or making the final pass. For an attacking player like me, those are fundamental aspects.”

Will you miss the Champions League this year? Pulisic said:
“Yes, because that’s where we want to be. Our goal is to qualify for it next year. The Champions League is the most fascinating European competition, and Milan deserves to play in it.”
Were you impressed by Rafael Leao’s start to the season, especially playing as a center-forward against Liverpool, where he was unstoppable?
“I don’t know why people still question his potential. We know it very well, and seeing him score like he did Saturday against the Reds, after a brilliant burst of pace, doesn’t surprise us. To me, he’s a top, top, top talent (he repeats it three times). Like the whole team, he just needs to find consistency, and then he’ll become more and more decisive.”
What can Luka Modric bring to Milan?
“He’ll bring experience, an indispensable trait during matches. For years he’s been a player of exceptional quality: I used to watch him as a fan, and then I played against him. Taking the ball off him is tough, and on top of that, he’s a leader who will bring consistency and solidity to Milan. He’ll be invaluable both on and off the pitch.”
What do you think of Samuele Ricci?
“I like him because he keeps it simple and never overdoes it, he does exactly what the team needs. He has great technique, controls the ball well, and passes it smartly. I really admire his style of play.”
And Alexis Saelemaekers?
“I did preseason with him last year, and I saw the performances he had with Bologna and Roma. He’s a quality player and contributes in many ways: dribbling, crossing, shooting, and even defending. He never holds back.”
Do you enjoy playing as a left winger, the role Allegri is using you in?
“I love playing in all positions, including this one. I’ve played there before, in a similar system, and starting from the left is definitely not a problem for me.”
Napoli and Inter were last season’s standouts and are strengthening in the market. Do you expect another two-horse race for the Scudetto?
“There are a lot of strong teams in Serie A. I don’t expect Napoli and Inter to go head-to-head all season because there will be several competitive challengers. We’ll try to win as many games as possible and climb as high as we can.”
Do you ever think about the World Cup scheduled for next June and July? Pulisic replied:
“It’s going to be a great season, and many players will want to perform at their best because it will end with the World Cup in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. Playing the World Cup in my home country is a dream, and I want to work hard to be ready for the biggest event in world football. I’m thrilled just thinking about participating but first, there’s a whole season to play with Milan. Right now, I’m fully focused on that, even if the World Cup is in the back of my mind."
