From the stage of the Aula Magna at the University of Milano-Bicocca, where he received an honorary master’s degree in “Marketing and Global Markets,” Inter president Giuseppe Marotta spoke about the sale of San Siro and the surrounding areas to Milan and Inter:
“In 2010 I took part in the inauguration of the Juventus Stadium. In 2011 we left the Stadio Olimpico. And coincidentally, in 7 years we won 7 consecutive league titles. A modern stadium that met every requirement and the needs of the fan. The fan must see the stadium as a welcoming home with the most modern services. Today that structure in Turin guarantees the club’s future. With sensitivity and intelligence, I hope the authorities can understand that the city needs a new, modern stadium. Milan had to give up UEFA’s invitation to host the Champions League final and is now out of the candidate cities to represent Italy for Euro 2032. I hope there will be no prejudices, everything must be done with maximum transparency, guaranteed by Milan and Inter. I hope this long-standing problem is solved as soon as possible.”
Marotta continued:
“We have a big problem with stadiums in Italy and also with the show, which must always be of quality. Today our product has lost value. Our league is a transitional one where unfortunately players are only passing through. Today in Serie A we have one player who in my view is a true champion, Luka Modric, but he arrived in Serie A at 40 years old.”
