Luka Modric spoke to the Croatian outlet (Ne)Uspjeh prvaka. He discussed his decision to join Milan after leaving Real Madrid on a free transfer and his first months with the Rossoneri.

Modric on AC Milan:
"I feel good. The city is wonderful. People welcomed me in a great way, inside and outside the club. You see Milan is a big club, a historic club. I am happy and I enjoy myself. I understand Italian well enough. I have not started learning it yet, I have not hired a teacher. It has some similarities with Spanish. My big problem is that when I speak I mix a lot of Spanish, but they understand me."
On leaving Real and joining Milan:
"I always said that after Real everything is a step down, everyone will confirm this. But I think I joined a team that, in reputation and history, is very close to Real Madrid. This was the ideal situation for me. Above all because I love Milan. I grew up as a kid with Italian football, they were my favourite team. I had strong respect for Milan in general, and there was also Boban, who had a great career at Milan, captain of the Croatian national team. He had a strong impact on Croatians watching and supporting Milan.”
On the idea that Milan needed a player like him:
“I agree. I add that I always thought that if one day I did not stay at Real, Milan would always be the first option.”
