In London today, the long-awaited summit took place between the NBA, the American professional basketball league, and FIBA, the world governing body of basketball. The two organizations met at a hotel in central London, in front of around 250 interested guests, to discuss the proposal for an NBA Europe, a European basketball league designed to mirror the prestige and success of the US competition. The idea is to launch the project in 2027, with 12 cities involved, including Milan and Rome. For this reason, both Gerry Cardinale and Zlatan Ibrahimović were present, representing RedBird as a potential investor in the project, along with several representatives of Olimpia Milano.
Gerry Cardinale also spoke from the stage and said:
"I think it will be incredibly successful, if we take what we have learned in the United States and what we have learned here. We are talking about a basketball league, but there is much more at stake. This is about the entire ecosystem, the national leagues, and the impact this project will have on future generations."
