The day has arrived. The final farewell to Franco Baresi takes place this morning at 11:00 CET at the Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio in Milan. Family members, friends, former teammates, former club executives, former opponents, and figures from across the sporting world are expected to attend. The funeral service is broadcast live on Rete 4, with a special programme beginning at 10:50.
Representing the current AC Milan are Gerry Cardinale, Paolo Scaroni, Massimo Calvelli, employees from Casa Milan, Milanello and the Vismara youth centre, as well as delegations from the men's first team (including Santiago Gimenez and Christian Pulisic), the women's team, and the club's youth academy, as relayed via Milan Press.
Representing Milan's glorious past are former teammates such as Paolo Maldini, Marco van Basten, Dejan Savićević, Demetrio Albertini, Sebastiano Rossi, Gianluca Zambrotta, Daniele Massaro, Alberico Evani and Roberto Donadoni.
Delegations from Italian clubs will also be present, including Inter president Giuseppe Marotta, along with representatives from international clubs such as Real Madrid and Barcelona. Civil authorities, including Milan mayor Giuseppe Sala, are expected to attend, as well as leading figures from Italian football: Gianluigi Brunelli and Claudio Ranieri representing Club Italia, Ezio Simonelli (Lega Serie A), Umberto Calcagno and Gianni Grazioli (Italian Footballers' Association), and Renzo Ulivieri (Italian Football Coaches' Association).
