Giovanni Malagò, who will challenge Giancarlo Abete in the elections for the presidency of the FIGC on 22 June, is reportedly already working on forming the team that will stand alongside him. One name greatly appreciated by the former CONI president is undoubtedly Paolo Maldini, who is said to have already been contacted by Malagò to ask about his availability to lead Club Italia.
Another key issue will of course be the appointment of Italy’s new head coach. His dream would be to hand the Azzurri bench to Pep Guardiola, although, as La Repubblica explains this morning, there are many uncertainties (would he leave Manchester City? would he accept the role? would he be satisfied with a salary far below the €24 million he currently earns?).
Both Massimiliano Allegri and Antonio Conte also remain in contention, having already been sounded out by Malagò.
