Among the many uncertainties surrounding Milan at the moment, there is also the question of Luka Modrić's future, with his contract set to expire in a week's time: will he decide to renew with the Rossoneri for another season, or will he hang up his boots and begin his new career as a director at Real Madrid? At present, it is impossible to answer that question because the Croatian star has not yet made a decision. First, he wants to enjoy his final World Cup, and then he will make his choice.

Modric wants to stay at Milan:

As 'La Gazzetta dello Sport' explained this morning, Modrić is extremely happy at Milan, even more so than he expected, and so is his family (his daughter Ema plays in Milan's youth academy). His relationship with the fans is excellent, and all his teammates are very fond of him, so all the conditions are in place for him to continue his career with the Rossoneri for another year. Luka is very keen to stay, but he will turn 40 in September and wants to think carefully before signing a new deal, listening to both his body and his heart.

Naturally, he will also need to speak with Milan's new head coach, Ruben Amorim, once his World Cup campaign with Croatia comes to an end. Modrić understandably wants to understand the Portuguese manager's project and how he intends to use him if he stays. Clearly, Luka cannot play every Serie A and Europa League match, so the most likely scenario is that he would be used in selected fixtures, perhaps skipping some Europa League away trips, occasionally coming on for the second half rather than always playing the full 90 minutes. If he feels comfortable with that role, he will continue; otherwise, he will say goodbye.
