Mattia Liberali has chosen to play for Como next season. After beating Inter to the signing of Nico Paz, Cesc Fàbregas' club has now done the same to AC Milan. Over the past few hours, Milan tried everything to persuade the young attacking midfielder from Catanzaro to return to the Rossoneri, but despite offering more money, the player preferred a move to the shores of Lake Como.

Milan: Liberali Preferred Como

According to Tuttosport this morning, Como had already been leading the race two days ago, but Milan's late intervention, reportedly strongly backed by Ruben Amorim, was expected to change the situation. Yesterday, there was even a video call between the player and Gerry Cardinale, who personally tried to convince Liberali to return to the club where he came through the youth ranks. However, after several hours of reflection, the youngster decided to say yes to Como.

It is a significant setback for Milan, who had offered more money both to the attacking midfielder and to his representatives, but Mattia ultimately preferred the sporting project presented by the club from Como.

Liberali Chose Como: Ibrahimović's Central Role at Milan

There was another factor that worked against Milan. During the conversation with Cardinale, it became clear that Zlatan Ibrahimović holds a central role within the Rossoneri's hierarchy. It is also widely known that the Swede was one of the main figures behind Liberali's departure last summer.

As a result, not even Cardinale's personal intervention was enough to turn the situation in Milan's favour. The Rossoneri can at least take some consolation from the fact that they will receive €3 million, 50% of Liberali's €6 million release clause, but the disappointment of missing out on the player remains.
