At the end of the big match between Juventus and Milan, Rossoneri head coach Ruben Amorim spoke to DAZN to comment on the game at the Allianz Stadium. Here are his full comments.
What was missing from Milan today?
"We didn't deserve to win. If we're being honest, I think Juventus didn't deserve to lose. We tried to play our game, but we weren't good enough on the ball. There were moments when we controlled the game in the first half, but then, when we started giving the ball away a lot, we suffered. I don't think we played well, but we've only been working together for two months. We picked up a point. Obviously, we have to do better, but we need time. It was a tough game."
Was it a problem of concepts that haven't been fully absorbed yet, or of individual technical quality?
"We have individual quality. Today, we were lacking in the simple things: in football, the simple things are the best. Even in the way we receive and pass the ball, we have to execute the simple things excellently. Today, we weren't good enough in the fundamentals. My feeling is that when our team doesn't have much of the ball, we struggle. Today, when they pushed many attackers forward and got close to our area, we coped well by defending. I think we suffered more when we lost the ball and were too exposed in transition. It's something we have to work on, but we won't change the way we play because we already know that in some matches we'll play well, while in others we won't. The important thing, though, is to fight until the end in every game. Today, we could have won it, but I repeat, Juventus didn't deserve to lose."
Is it difficult to change the mentality of the team in terms of how it plays?
"Obviously, we're changing the way we play. At times, we did well. My feeling is that in the first half we weren't under much pressure and we could have had better possession. Sometimes we lost the ball without being under any pressure. We took risks constantly, and that's something we have to improve: how to play with the ball, how to defend with the ball, and how to be more aggressive. Sometimes, when we move towards the goal, we have to be more aggressive. If we want to keep the ball, we have to move more, have more desire to do so and be a little braver. But it was a great stadium, against a great team and an excellent coach, and we came very close to winning. So I don't want to be too negative about my players, but obviously I demand more, and they want more too."
How satisfied are you with Cisse? Amorim said:
"I'm really happy for all the players, but I want to be cautious with our young players because nowadays in football, there is a tendency to hype players up too much, too early. We mustn't forget that he's a young boy at the beginning of his career. I think he needs to continue training very well. Obviously, I'm really happy for him because everyone likes seeing a young player doing well, especially an Italian player. So it's a great moment, but again, I look at Cisse and think he can still do much better. The same goes for the other players. I said that I love Cisse, but I love all my players and I'm really satisfied with all the training sessions and all the matches they've played. Today wasn't the perfect day, but sometimes we expect too much, and I demand a lot from our players," as relayed via Milannews.it.
