AC Milan’s Europa League campaign got off to a difficult start as Benfica secured a historic 2–0 victory at San Siro. Lukebakio opened the scoring in the first half with a superb curling finish, while Kaminski doubled Benfica’s lead early in the second after Milan’s passive defending allowed him a free shot inside the box.
Despite Amorim making several changes, including the introductions of Gila, Pulisic, Moreira, Saelemaekers and Rabiot, Milan struggled to create clear-cut chances, with Pulisic coming closest on two occasions. Benfica looked more organised and physically prepared throughout, while Milan appeared slow, short of ideas and unable to seriously threaten their opponents.
