Milan's return to winning ways against Lecce yesterday naturally pleased everyone at the club, including Ruben Amorim and Gerry Cardinale, who both expressed their happiness after the match at finally picking up three points following two draws and a defeat.
Beyond the result, the Portuguese coach and Milan's owner were also pleased with the performance, as the Rossoneri looked like a completely different team compared to just a few days earlier.
This was reported by 'La Gazzetta dello Sport' this morning, which also published Amorim's comments. The Portuguese coach explained that, in his view, his Milan deserved to have more than the 11 points they have collected from their first five Serie A matches:
“We deserved more points, we could have beaten Juventus and Lazio. In Turin, we conceded only in stoppage time, while in Rome we created more chances than they did. In the last few matches, we were rigid in our positioning, but this time there was more freedom. We have improved, but there is still a lot to work on. It wasn't all to be thrown away: at times it seemed that way, especially after the latest results, but we need to find a balance. Judgements need to be measured. I listen to the players, but then I make the decisions. We want to be dominant in every situation.”
Gerry Cardinale praises the team
Milan's return to winning ways came in front of Gerry Cardinale, who has now watched all five of the Rossoneri's league matches from the stands this season. The Milan owner congratulated Amorim and the team not only for the result, but also for their performance:
“It was among the best 90 minutes of football we have seen. I want to congratulate Ruben and our players for continuing to fight through these first few matches before the international break. No one should overlook the fact that a new coach, with a new style of play and new players, will need time to develop the right understanding. I also want to thank our fans for supporting us during this period of transition, as we work to put things right and bring AC Milan back to its winning tradition.”
