With Matteo Gabbia set to be out for three to four months with an injury, Ruben Amorim has limited options in defence, meaning Milan will have to return to the transfer market in January to bring in another centre-back.
The Rossoneri directors have never taken their eyes off Gonçalo Inácio of Sporting CP. At the end of August, Milan made a concrete attempt to sign him, offering €40 million with an obligation to buy subject to certain conditions. However, the Portuguese club failed to find a replacement in time and therefore rejected Milan’s proposal.
As Corriere dello Sport explains in this morning’s edition, the club will almost certainly make another attempt to sign the Portuguese defender in January. However, he is not the only name being considered by the Rossoneri directors.
One alternative to Inácio is Manchester United’s Leny Yoro, who is represented by Jorge Mendes. The agent worked closely with Gerry Cardinale during the most recent transfer window.
