AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni made some statements on the sidelines of the event 'Il Tempo dello Sport', at Bocconi University in Milan. The Rossoneri president spoke about the new San Siro and how much work has gone on behind the scenes to reach where we are today. Here are his words.
The battle to renovate San Siro...
"I have dedicated six years of my life to promoting the new San Siro stadium. It has been a long and difficult process. As early as 2018, I was trying to explain that Milan needed a new stadium and that San Siro could not be renovated. There are two teams playing every three days: how is it possible to do it? People would reply that they were too emotionally attached to it, and this way of thinking made my objective difficult, especially in politics, because it should listen to the citizens. Then, perhaps because Italians and people from Milan saw other new stadiums on television, people realised that perhaps things had to change. This process of change also involved politics, and gradually a change was achieved."
Scaroni and the Wembley example:
"The new stadium will be designed by the greatest architects in the world, including Norman Foster, who designed the new Wembley. Well, Wembley should be the Scala of Football, because the English invented football. To link back to this, Wembley was nevertheless knocked down and rebuilt from scratch."
