Stefano Pioli appeared on Sky Calcio Club on the evening of Sunday, 1 November. His comments on the Rossoneri, between the successful past and the modern-day Milan under Ruben Amorim.
«Scudetto? I believe a coach's ability lies in adapting to the characteristics of the players. In that team, I had players whom I would have put in difficulty if I had made them defend deep. It always depends on the intensity and energy with which you press forward. You can sit deep or push high, but if you want to play with a high line, you have to do it with significant intensity. In the Scudetto-winning season, Rafa was devastating. When you win, something special is created within the same working group. After the Scudetto, Paolo (Maldini,), Ricky (Massara) and I were not good enough, but neither was he. Rafa cannot follow a full-back all the way back. He can do it, but then he doesn't.»
Pioli on Diego Moreira:
«Moreira like Leao? I also watched him against Sassuolo and he impressed me. He and Rabiot have tremendous physical power. Milan played an excellent match (in the 3-1 derby win), Maignan made a great save... but with the first 11, they are a genuinely strong team. When Amorim made a few more substitutions, they struggled more. It took them a while to reach this point because they had players who were arriving, and probably arrived, with some problems, and it takes time to find rhythm and fitness. The results are now showing. Modric also still has tremendous physical ability. Gonçalo Ramos does a great job for the team and is a very good player.»
