After some rumors, FIGC, the governing body of women’s football in Italy, officially announced today the kickoff dates for Serie A and Serie B, among some important changes also in Coppa Italia, Supercoppa and Primavera.

Serie A

The 2021-2022 season will kick off the weekend of August 29 and, as anticipated, in order to reduce its participant due the arrival of professionalism the following season, instead of two, three clubs will be relegate to Serie B. Also, the governing body decided that all games scheduled between August 28 and September 12 are to be scheduled between 18:50 and 23:00 CET.

Serie B

Serie B will start on September 12 and, once again, due to the reduction of clubs in Serie A, only one team will be promoted to A, while three will be relegated to Serie C at the end of the league.

Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana

No changes in Coppa Italia, with 22 clubs already in the group stage and a playoff for the last 2 group stage spots. Those 24 clubs are set to be split in 8 groups of 4 teams, the winners advance to the two-legged quarterfinals, two-legged semifinals and the final, played in a single game.

Regarding the Supercoppa Italiana, FIGC chose to keep the final four format for the competition and Juventus (Serie A champions), Milan (Serie A runner up), Roma (Coppa Italia champions) and Sassuolo (Third-place in Serie A) will take part of the tournament. According to regulations, it's likely that Milan will face Roma while Juventus will take on Sassuolo in the semifinals.

There are still some topics to be discussed by FIGC, such as dates and times for the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana games, and, according to them, will be addressed further in the future.
