AC Milan defender Laura Fusetti gave an interesting interview to Milan TV and shared her thoughts on the next game against Internazionale, the 3-5-2 formation, their objectives for this season and much more.
Here her words:
The season is about to enter the decisive stage: what is the atmosphere like inside the dressing room?
"We have entered the most important stage of the league; we must keep the second place and try to take home as many points as possible. Our main objective, in fact, is make to Champions League. The victory with Empoli certainly helped us to regain serenity and the atmosphere in the dressing room is very good. We must continue this path, be united and give our best as we have always done. If we can do it, we will be able to achieve our objectives and enjoy."
The motivations will be very high to defend the second place in the standings and qualify in the Champions League...
"That's because we want so much about qualifying for the Champions League next season, also because last year we missed it only for a matter of decisive goal difference after the halt of the league due to the pandemic".
What is the personal balance of your season?
"There is always to room for improvement and I always try to give my best to help the team. If I am totally satisfied on a personal level I will say it at the end of the season. We're definitely doing a good job in the back, we're the second-best defense. We want to do well and try to keep that way, so, why not improve it. If we can pass on confidence, the rest of the team can also play more at ease. In general, we need to improve still on some aspect, but we are having a great season."
One of the tactical innovations of this 2020/21 was the back three defense: how are you with this module?
"I feel good, even at Brescia I played with this module. It gives us the way to be more covered and, at the same time, offensive when the situation allows. In addition, the 352 enhances the characteristics of each of us."
It's Derby week: are you excited?
"It is an important game for us in the league. The Derby is special, everybody can feel it, not only those on the pitch. Those are matches that you don't have to charge up for because you always want to play them. Having said that, on Sunday we will meet Inter, but after that there will be other games, all important and they will all be finals".
Inter beat you in the first leg of the Coppa Italia Semi-Final: will a "revenge" in the league have any influence on the second leg fixture?
"We lost in the Coppa Italia, Inter are a good team with strong individuality. We will therefore have to be even more focused, fight on every single ball and so we can prove our worth. Winning on Sunday means having even more strength for the cup return as well."
You have been at AC Milan since the birth of the Rossonere. How much has Milan Women grown over the years?
"The team has grown a lot, especially in terms of mentality. Even if we are not yet at the professionals by the law yet, we feel like real professionals and the Club treats us like that way. We feel the value of the shirt we wear, and we have been transmitted important values starting from the attachment to these colors".
Following on from the latter question: how much room for growth do you see in the team?
"A lot, also because most of the players have arrived this year. The more you play together, the more you find the right chemistry. Some teammates arrived in the summer: Vero in November, Hasegawa at the end of January. Having continuity and learning to get to know each other on a football level, each with its own technical skills, is an added value for the whole group".
Baresi and Puyol: at the first you asked permission to wear the number 6 shirt and the second is your idol: what drove you to become a central defender, and what do you appreciate most about this role?
"Maybe not everyone knows that I started playing in midfield and to make up for injury absences I changed my role and played as a central defender. It's a role I really like. You're the last bastion before the goal and you're tasked with giving the team security. My idol is Puyol, a champion on and off the field and gritty, he has always given his soul and has never missed an opportunity to help his teammates. As for Baresi, it is an honour for me to wear the number 6 shirt of a great defender and captain. I'm just sorry I didn't see a lot of his live games because I was little. Having him by our side today and playing with his jersey is beautiful."
