Even with only two official matches, April is a crucial month for the AC Milan Woman’s ambition this season. Next Sunday, 18, they will face Napoli in a Serie A match and, the following weekend, April 25th, the Coppa Italia semifinal second leg against city rivals Internazionale takes place.
In Serie A, while the rossonere face the partenopee for the second time ever, Sassuolo will host table leaders Juventus. To date, Milan have a comfortable 5-point advantage from the neroverde and, to snatch the three points against Napoli and having Juventus win their game would mean increasing that distance to 8 points. Thus, the diavolesse would be a little more serene to face the toughest month in the league, playing Roma, Fiorentina and Sassuolo themselves, in addition to Hellas Verona in May. For instance, in this scenario (Milan and Juventus winning their games), AC Milan getting 4 out of 12 points at stake in May would secure the Champions League spot. Otherwise, the Serie A matchday 21, when Sassuolo host Milan at the Ricci Stadium, becomes a play-off with a lot of pressure and high expectations.
The Coppa Italia became a goal later this year, especially after beating the same Sassuolo in the quarterfinals. In the semi-final first leg, Internazionale beat Milan 2-1 at home after a terrible poor performance by the diavolesse. Although, that away goal scored by the one and only Valentina Giacinti kept the rossonere’s hope alive of reversing this adverse situation alive, and the 4-1 win on Serie A matchday 17 is another reason to believe. On the other side of the draw, Juventus faces Roma after the gialorosse beat the biaconere 1-2 in the first leg.
Milan's game history in April is not very extensive, with only three matches since the 2018/2019 season. Two of them for Serie A, a win against Mozzannica away (0-2, goals from Sabatino and Giacinti) and a defeat to Chievo Verona at home (1-2, goals from Pirone and Tarenzi, while Alborghetti, today at Inter, scored for AC Milan). The third, a Coppa Italia semi-final second leg, ended in a draw against Juventus away (1-1 with Giuliano responding to Glionna).
