AC Milan Women goalie Mária Korenčiová spoke to Milan TV’s microphone on an exclusive interview about several topics, including her expectations for this season, the Coppa Italia Final and much more.
Here are her words:
On the last game:
“It was our first draw, we dropped two points, but we have to look at how we played, and how was the whole game, and Roma performance was. I think they played really well, they're playing better every year and for us was the most important to keep the distance from Sassuolo on the table, take some points and that was a small step to our goal.”
On the upcoming match against Fiorentina:
“I think at the beginning of the season, when we played the first game against Fiorentina, (last season’s defeat) was really fresh in our mind and we wanted to take revenge. At this point, I think we have to just keep on our mind that Fiorentina is a good team, but we know that we can beat them with our best performance and that's it.”
On making it to the Champions League:
“I cannot say how I would feel if we make it or not. I really believe that we can do it, then it will be amazing, it will be historical moment, but if I'm to relive all moments during these three seasons, I'm just happy, I'm happy that I decide to come here and play for AC Milan. I think we did good in the last seasons and, improving step by step, playing better, I feel like we're really close to our goals and that's a really good feeling.”
On the decisive moments on this season:
“I don't think that I can say that one moment, one exactly match where was like decisive to our season, I think that moment may yet to come, because we still have three really though matches ahead of us and every game can decide our future. I think the key moment was, like, we actually considered every game to be a decisive, prepared for them, like this can be the key moment that or key game, so every fixture that we’ve played and every point that we’ve got throughout the season can be decisive. During these three seasons we’ve seen a lot of changes in the squad, some new players came, some left and how those choices were made, on who should stay and who could accept each other, the different mentalities, different ways of playing football was pretty important, so I feel that bringing people who could actually work together, as a team, was the was crucial for this season.”
On the Coppa Italia final clash against Roma:
“It's definitely another motivation. We said that this is our goal, we are in the final, but I think nobody will feel that we achieve something if we don’t win it, so we want to work hard and win this final, and I'm pretty sure everybody thinks alike because without that, well, we really don’t want to finish the season empty handed.”
On being on her thirties and the experience that comes with it:
“I mean, the more you play the more experience you have and you can deal better with the pressure which will come from this Coppa Italia final. It’s different how you see the game, how you prepare yourself when you are 20 years-old and when you are 30 years-old, it’s like that for every player, so I hope I can use all that experience and help this team in the best way possible.”
