The Super League breakaway project has returned in a new fashion with new talking points to reinvent itself after much controversy in the last few months.
AC Milan were among the clubs involved in this project until abandoning it and this Super League situation led to an ongoing war with UEFA.
As reported by Marca, the Super League returned with a new document: a letter setting out ten key points for reforming the world of football.
"The project announced by 12 clubs in April has been manifestly misinterpreted. The current Champions League, directed and operated by UEFA, the self-proclaimed regulator of football competitions in Europe, has not changed in almost 30 years and has become rigid and boring."
"The Superliga project is the recognition of a system that is broken. UEFA is the self-established government of football in the European Union, while it is a private Swiss association governed by Swiss law and subject to the CAS (an arbitration tribunal outside the control of the European Court of Justice) on sports matters."
The 10 points of the Super League project:
- The Super League is not a proposal that will break the established order or abandon the national championships;
- The concept of "permanent members" should be eliminated;
- The Superlega is the recognition of a system that has broken;
- UEFA's roles create structural conflicts;
- UEFA has close links with some club owners in non-member states;
- Lack of high-level matches;
- Inadequate economic-financial control;
- Lack of transparency in accounting and solidarity;
- The European Union is losing control over football;
- Big city clubs located in smaller states cannot compete in the current UEFA model.
