AC Milan's good run of form in the Serie A league so far this season has been impressive, winning 9 games out of 10. They are currently first in the standings while waiting for Napoli's match against Bologna.
Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara are aware that to keep a strong competitive team, the key players must be protected with new contracts. The Rossoneri directors have already renewed contracts of Davide Calabria, Alexis Saelemaekers and Simon Kjaer.
The club management is thinking about renewing Romagnoli's deal now. Although the Italian captain is no longer a regular starter, he is still important as he serves as a rotation option for Stefano Pioli.
According to what is reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport in today's print edition, there is an opening for the contract talks with Romagnoli who is represented by Super Italian-Dutch agent Mino Raiola.
In fact, a meeting between the player's entourage and the Rossoneri club leadership will take place very soon to discuss the terms. Maldini and Massara do want to keep the player, but only on their own terms. They want to extend the deal but at lower costs. Currently, Romagnoli is earning a yearly fee of 5.5 million euros net per season plus bonuses included. Il Diavolo executives will try to lower the salary as they do not see him worthy of such a high figure.

For Franck Kessié, though, it is a different situation. The former Atalanta player also has a contract expiring in June 2022 but his agent, George Atangana, does not seem really interested in having renewal talks. Instead, he is eyeing up opportunities for his client as he tries to land the perfect contract for him. The agent's idea is a free transfer in order to get a high salary for the midfielder and big commission fee for himself.
