AC Milan come from two defeats now in a row in the Serie A now. After Saturday's loss in Florence, it seems that Pioli's boys could not bring the momentum acquired against Atlético Madrid in order to win against Sassuolo. A bitter loss at the San Siro is handed to Il Diavolo 3-1 with a red card for Alessio Romagnoli at minute 77.
The match started with AC Milan using the following lineup:
4-2-3-1: Maignan; Florenzi, Kjaer, Romagnoli, Theo; Bakayoko, Bennacer; Saelemaekers, Brahim Diaz, Leao; Ibrahimovic.
As for Sassuolo, here's the lineup they used:
4-3-3: Consigli; Muldur, Ayhan, Ferrari, Kyriakopoulos; Frattesi, Lopez, Henrique; Berardi, Scamacca, Raspadori.
The Rossoneri started the match reasonably well, and around the 21st minute, Alessio Romagnoli managed to score with a header thanks to a good cross in a corner. However, the game was far from being decided, Sassuolo did not look like they lost any bit of confidence. In fact, they continued to play their own game and just a few minutes later, a sensational screamer sent in by Gianluca Scamacca found its way to the net, it was too strong, Maignan could not possibly see it coming and save it.
The problems for Milan continued as Scamacca was unguarded in a corner kick and kicked the ball powerfully, stopped at first by Maignan, but it deflected on Kjaer's foot and entered the net. Own goal by Kjaer at minute 33.
From then, Milan looked lost in midfield, many duels were lost. AC Milan tried to attack but they found an organised team in front of them.
In the second half, Sassuolo continued to play and establish dominance, the substitutions made by coach Pioli were not as effective, unfortunately. Later, a fatal error by Franck Kessié led to Berardi scoring a goal which virtually sealed a bitter loss for the Rossonri in their own turf.
It was a day to forget for Milan fans, but not for Pioli and his team. Certainly, the Italian coach and his coaching staff will be reviewing the game over and over to analyse the mistakes and try to avoid them in the future, starting from the game against Shevchenko's Genoa in Genoa.
