Rafael Leao is far from being in a positive moment: the Portuguese striker has not scored in two long months, an incredibly long period for a talent like him. But beyond the difficulties in terms of scoring, unfortunately, we no longer see the carefree and decisive player who led Milan towards their 19th Scudetto last year, writes MilanNews.it.
Both tactical issues and the contractual situation are behind this crisis. Since Stefano Pioli changed the formation of his Milan, with Leao playing a bit more centrally from his previous role as a winger, his performance has dropped, and he is struggling to adapt to the new position on the field where he has to move in traffic and has less space. In addition to this, there is also the issue of his contract, despite more optimism being felt now than a few months ago.
To Leao's rescue came the words of Stefano Pioli, who staunchly defends his young superstar: "His situation is strange because last year he did much less in training, but he performed better in matches. Now it's the opposite. We need to look for him more. Renewal? The contract issue has nothing to do with it."
The feeling is that all the rumours surrounding his future are not leaving him at peace and are affecting his performance. The negotiations, however, are ongoing, and as previously mentioned, there is more optimism coming from both Casa Milan and the player's entourage than a couple of months ago. But for now, both the signature and a goal from Leao are still missing, as per Il Corriere della Sera.
