AC Milan's head coach, Stefano Pioli, is certainly in delicate moment. Gerry Cardinale, however, has placed his trust in him once again. But, the RedBird boss and the rest of the club management require an immediate reaction in the league, starting with the match against Frosinone this Saturday at the San Siro stadium.
As reported this morning by Corriere della Sera, the Rossoneri's anti-crisis plan must start with solving the injury emergency: the count is already at 25 injuries in three months, with 18 of them being muscular in nature. The focus is on training workloads and managing playing time.
The latest injury was that of Malick Thiaw, who will have to remain sidelined for about two and a half months (likely to return in mid-February).
This isn't the first serious physical problem in Milan's defense, as Pierre Kalulu (out until March) and Marco Pellegrino, as well as Kjaer, are already sidelined.
That's why returning to the transfer market in January will be necessary to fix a defence that is in pieces.
While waiting for the opening of the winter transfer window, however, the young Jan-Carlo Simic from the Primavera will be promoted to the senior team.
The initial names on the shortlist to reinforce the defensive area are Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth and Jakub Kiwior from Arsenal.
There's also attention on attacking movements; another area that needs new additions since there isn't a true alternative to Olivier Giroud. The dream remains Jonathan David from Lille, but there's also a watchful eye on the profile of Akor Adams from Montpellier.
