In Tuttosport today's print edition, there is space dedicated to the AC Milan club's difficult situation in defence.
Today's article explains that the club aims to secure one or two centre-backs in January's transfer session due to the injuries of Pierre Kalulu, Marco Pellegrino, and Malick Thiaw (without also forgetting Simon Kjaer who has been struggling with physical setbacks as well).
The club has decided against exploring free agents in the market (thus ruling out possibilities like Jérôme Boateng joining the Rossoneri). This decision stems from the belief that there are no suitable options available, and even if there were, they might not be ready to play immediately.
Promoting Jan-Carlo Simić from the Milan Primavera side alone won't be enough to cover the defensive gap, however. But who might the club target in the January transfer window?
According to the Turin-based newspaper, Milan is looking into players who may be discontented due to lack of playtime or limited playing opportunities at their current clubs. They intend to pursue deals structured as loan with an option to buy or, if financially feasible, permanent acquisitions.
In fact, as per the source, AC Milan could try to sign in January Bournemouth's English central defender Lloyd Kelly who is 25 years old (his contract expires in the summer). However, the English club do not seem interested in letting him leave in the middle of the season.
Another alternative option could be Benoît Badiashile from Chelsea who was signed last summer from Monaca for a fee around 40 million euros. It remains to be seen if the English giants would agree to a loan move to Milan.
Hence, the Milan notebook also includes Jakub Kiwior (Arsenal), who, however, isn't expected to leave on loan, and Maxime Estève (Montpellier). Additionally, there might be other potential profiles yet to emerge and be evaluated by Geoffrey Moncada and Antonio D’Ottavio.
