For different reasons, everyone is underperforming compared to the standards we've been used to in the last few years at Milan. There might be physical or tactical reasons, but fundamentally, negative attitudes are dragging down the team on the field.
In Salerno, there was a blunder from this perspective. The body language of some players was truly disheartening. Unfortunately, Rafael Leao was the worst in this aspect. It's not pleasant to report, but his approach was unacceptable, almost disrespectful to the Rossoneri's number 10.
Currently, the team isn't getting much from the big players such as Rafael Leao, Theo Hernandez and Olivier Giroud without forgetting Mike Maignan, who after two superb saves, made a serious mistake.
This season, we've never been able to appreciate Hernandez. Between personal and tactical issues, he's practically never been a factor, despite almost always being on the field. Nothing good has been coming from the left side lately.
Olivier Giroud always fights, and his stats are respectable for December. However, even though he's often been a starter, at times during the game, he's gone missing. In the early matches, he could create spaces behind defenders, but now, on many occasions, he's being anticipated.
Mike Maignan is under too much pressure. AC Milan is a team that concedes a lot. He's targeted like few other goalkeepers. Despite having talent and explosiveness few possess, he's made a few mistakes this season. For a goalkeeper, every intervention is delicate, and in these months, imperfections have been noticed in some exits and slight mistakes that have proved decisive, as with BVB and Salernitana, for example.
The performances of such diverse players, in such diverse roles, are hard to measure. But if the Rossoneri is in this state of apathy, unable to control their games, it's also due to the shortcomings of the big players.
If they truly are convinced about continuing to work with Pioli, as reported by the media in recent days, they should show something. Otherwise, even just for professionalism, they should find a way to perform at their levels, as pointed out by Milan Press.
