Olivier Giroud, the AC Milan striker, was elected by the newspaper 'Le Dauphiné liberé 'from the south of France, where he was born as 'Champion of the Year' and gave an interview:
"I would have never imagined this career. I am very proud to have been chosen by the people from my hometown, the people with whom I grew up and shared time. It's a pleasure to be recognised in one's own region, especially because one should never forget where they come from."
Giroud added:
"My whole family lives in the Grésivaudan valley, and as soon as I have the opportunity, I go back home. I also enjoy coming to see our beloved mountains. To be honest, I miss skiing a lot. The first thing I will do after my career is get back on the slopes. This is prohibited in some contracts. It's a risky sport, and we saw it with Manuel Neuer, Bayern Munich's goalkeeper, who broke his tibia and fibula last winter."
