La Gazzetta dello Sport today picks up the rumor coming from America and tries to delve into it. Specifically, there is talk of negotiations between Los Angeles FC (LAFC) and Olivier Giroud, but decisions are still far from being made.
Currently, the Frenchman is focused on his season with Milan, which still has much to offer, and it's not a decision he wants to take lightly. Certainly, there is interest from the Californian team: the LA club has even obtained a sort of priority, the discovery rights: rights that a club can benefit from to exclusively negotiate for a certain period of time with a player who is not already part of the MLS, the American league.
In Los Angeles, Giroud could also reunite with Hugo Lloris, who recently joined the Californian outfit, as relayed via Milan News.
But Giroud's decision will primarily be for the good of his family, as he himself has admitted for some time: "At the end of the season, more opportunities will arise, and I will make my decision. As a footballer and as a family man."
AC Milan, for its part, would have no problem renewing Giroud's contract. Approaching the age of 38, after the three seasons he has had and is having in the Rossoneri shirt, and bolstered by the beautiful relationship he has established with the fans, for Giroud it would no longer be about money but only about feelings: does he feel capable of having another season at a high level?
The equation also considers the fact that Milan will focus on a young striker, so Giroud would have more of a mentor and veteran role. For Milan, it would be convenient to have a Giroud like this - and perhaps more rested - even for the next season. The decision will be Giroud's and only time will tell how the situation will unfold.
