The name of Sergio Conceiçao has recently emerged as one of the potential candidates for the Milan coaching position.
What makes this particularly noteworthy is the recent development surrounding Conceiçao's tenure at Porto. After seven seasons with the club, he had just signed a contract extension until 2028 with the long-standing president, Pinto da Costa. A significant shift, however, occurred with the recent presidential elections at Porto, which saw former coach André Villas-Boas emerge victorious.
Now, there's speculation that Conceiçao might be able to terminate his contract through a clause included in his recent renewal. However, there are also concerns within the club about whether to continue with him as the manager. Milan is closely monitoring the situation.
Villas-Boas, now heading the club's board of directors, has expressed doubts about the financial and economic plan, as reported by 'Record'. During his election campaign, he emphasised the importance of budgetary discipline. The Portuguese newspaper points out that Conceiçao's renewal, which amounts to 3.5 million euros with bonuses and other factors, would end up costing the club 28 million euros over four years,a figure that the new president may find excessive. These concerns will likely be addressed in a meeting between the president Villas Boas and the coach Conceiçao scheduled to take place quite soon actually.
