This morning, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the first step towards Milanello has been taken by the 25-year-old French defensive midfielder, Youssouf Fofana. In recent hours, he announced his likely departure from the Monaco team while at the national team’s training camp: "I still have one year left on my contract with Monaco. I spoke about my future with the management, it’s no secret. We have an agreement to take this next step. If it doesn’t happen, I will stay at Monaco for the rest of the season. I hope everyone wins this summer, but at the moment, I’m not thinking about it."
Fofana will play in the European Championship with the France national team, and to prevent his success from increasing competition from other clubs, Milan wants to make a decisive move before the tournament begins.
How much does the French midfielder cost? A year ago, Monaco rejected a 35 million euros offer from Nottingham Forest, hoping to renew his contract. However, that did not happen, and the expiration remains 2025.
With only one year left on his contract, the French club will have to "settle" for a lower figure, which could be between 20 million euros and 25 million euros. An amount quite significant, but certainly within reach for the AC Milan club management.
When his name started being strongly linked to the Rossoneri a few months ago, Fofana commented: "Everyone knows Milan and its trophy cabinet. It’s a huge club."
