Today, the first two quarter-finals of Euro 2024 will be played, and it's going to be a hand-clapping affair.
Specifically, at 6 PM CEST, the host nation Germany will take on Spain, which seems to be the current favourite. La Roja's attack is led by captain Alvaro Morata, who is currently fully focused on the competition but will have to decide on his future once it concludes. Among the range of possibilities available to the Spanish forward, Milan has emerged as an option.
As highlighted this morning by Corriere dello Sport, the Rossoneri managers are seriously considering paying the release clause worth 13 million euros. Considering the experience of the striker, both in general and in the Italian league, it is indeed a lucrative opportunity also from an economic standpoint.
Certainly, Morata is no longer young, but he still has at least a few years ahead of him and is proving that he can still make a difference at high levels. This morning's rumor describes the operation as "difficult but not impossible."
So, what is the difficult part? As is often the case in these negotiations, Milan will have to work on the salary. Morata is a striker with a fairly high salary, asking for over 6 million euros net per season, in fact. The management will work to lower these demands. However, they first need to secure Alvaro's approval, who, for now, is entirely focused on the Euro cup with Spain and will decide at the end of the continental event. Despite the tournament with Spain, Morata has recently had the chance to reject lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia and has made a social media post swearing loyalty to Atletico: "I can't imagine what it must be like to win with this jersey, and I won't stop until I achieve it."
This last message, however, was a reference to rumors about a possible move to the Arab world. The Rossoneri's interest might change the Spaniard's thoughts on his transfer. With Zirkzee remaining the first option but not progressing, Morata emerges as a valid alternative
