Álvaro Morata is ready to leave the Spanish national team. In an interview with El Mundo, the Atlético Madrid forward announced his decision, which is not yet entirely final, also addressing the various criticisms he has received over the years while he has always been a starter for La Roja:
"It is likely that I will leave the national team after the European Championship."
At the end of the quarter-final victory against Germany, the referee showed a yellow card towards the bench. At first, it was thought that it was directed at Morata, as the TV graphics also suggested, which would have forced him to miss the semi-final. However, this was not the case; Morata will be in the semi-final. He returned to the topic, still in a critical tone:
"Regarding the yellow card issue, some were already saying 'I hope he gets it,' or 'we play better without him'... I am happier outside of Spain because people respect me. In Spain, there is no respect for anything or anyone."
Morata continues:
"Many times I say that for me, there are difficult moments in Spain; sometimes it is complicated. What I wanted was to be calm. In the end, it's all about feelings, and the people close to me know that, but in football, nothing is certain, and we will have to see how things go. Now I am focused on the National Team."
