Saturday the 20th, at 17:30 CEST, Milan will play its first pre-season friendly match in Vienna against Rapid.
On this occasion, the new coach Paulo Fonseca will only be able to count on Marco Nasti and Lorenzo Colombo in attack, two youngsters expected to leave again in the coming weeks.
Joining them will be Daniel Maldini, Luka Romero, and perhaps a few other names from the Primavera team. Considering Luka Jovic's return a few days later and Alvaro Morata's addition, Milan will very likely need a third striker as well.
The big signing for Milan in attack is Alvaro Morata, the Spain national team captain who won the European Championship. Milan fans expected a signing closed a few weeks earlier and perhaps aimed for a more prospective player, such as Zirkzee, but in the end, given the circumstances, the Spanish forward is an excellent solution.
First of all, because he almost always guarantees at least 15 goals, and secondly for his great experience in Serie A and in European competitions. To cap it all off, there's also the economic advantage of the operation: as Tuttosport reminds us, Milan will pay the 13 million euros release clause to Atletico Madrid and will agree with the player on a four-year deal, with an option for the fifth, worth 5 million euros net a year (including bonuses). Tomorrow, Morata will undergo medical examinations in Madrid and then leave on vacation with his family: he will be in Milan at the beginning of August, when the team returns from the United States.
Having saved significantly on the player's transfer fee, Milan now also aims for a third striker, who would be useful from both a numerical and tactical standpoint, as we have seen. In this regard, in the coming days, the Rossoneri management will be working on multiple fronts, both to close deals for a defender and a midfielder and to seize opportunities for a new forward.
At the moment, there are two main contenders, though very different in terms of age and characteristics. The first is Niclas Füllkrug, a 31-year-old from Dortmund and Germany: set to leave the yellow-black club due to the probable arrival of Guirassy, according to Tuttosport, he is highly regarded by the Rossoneri for his role interpretation. The second name is AS Roma's Tammy Abraham: from a technical standpoint, he guarantees less but is younger and has several Serie A seasons under his belt. There could be a head-to-head between these two forwards.
