After missing the games against Parma and Lazio, Alvaro Morata is gearing up to return to the field. The new AC Milan striker is recovering from a low-grade injury to the left rectus femoris muscle, which is improving day by day.
The player was not called up by Spain’s coach, De la Fuente, and during the break, he worked diligently to make himself available to Fonseca. Now, there is optimism surrounding his return for the upcoming match, scheduled for Saturday, September 14th at 8:45 PM against Venezia for the fourth league game of the season.
After working individually to overcome the injury, the former Atletico Madrid striker is about to rejoin the group. Currently, the coach’s idea is to have him on the bench for the home game against Di Francesco’s team. The medical staff continues to monitor Morata’s condition, and his return won’t be rushed if he’s not fully fit. Fonseca wants him at 100% for the Champions League debut on Tuesday, September 17th against Liverpool.
Milan will play four consecutive matches at San Siro in the next four games: Venezia, Liverpool, the derby against Inter (September 22nd at 8:45 PM), and against Lecce (September 27th at 8:45 PM). For the clashes with the Reds and the derby against Inter, Fonseca hopes to have Morata fit and ready to start. That’s why, upon the league’s resumption, Morata will likely sit on the bench and only come on if necessary. The Spaniard’s journey with Milan began strongly, scoring in his debut against Torino, but then a muscle issue after the match forced him to stop. Now, he’s set for a gradual return, and Fonseca is being cautious to avoid any risks.
