Regarding Zlatan Ibrahimović's work with Milan and Paulo Fonseca's future, Fabio Capello, former Rossoneri coach, made the following statements to Gazzetta dello Sport:
"I heard the boss on TV: he says he’s in charge, right? So he has some responsibility too... There isn’t a single player from that midfield in the Milan team that won the Scudetto. If you’ve won, you need to improve the foundation, not destroy it. In recent years, there have been attacking midfielders and half-forwards... And where is the playmaker? But the problem concerns many roles. Like the center-forward. Giroud is a box forward, Morata is something else... Morata is not a box forward. A tactical change like this needs to be studied by the club and the coach."
Capello added:
"I’m surprised by De Rossi's sacking: if you’ve made a semi-revolution, you need to give him time, not sack him after four games. Fonseca also needs time. But now it’s up to him. Conte made his presence felt immediately: he failed in the first game, was publicly harsh and not just in the locker room, and the wake-up call was immediate. What should he do? Get into the players' heads. They don’t seem to have the right competitive tension. As if they weren’t prepared to face different situations in the game compared to training. After winning the Scudetto, the spirit was missing, as if they were full: Tomori seemed like a phenomenon, today he’s struggling tremendously. Maybe Ibra could instill that tension in them: he never lacked it on the pitch."
