Tijjani Reijnders joined AC Milan in the summer of 2023 on a permanent deal from AZ Alkmaar for around 20 million euros.
Algemeen Dagblad, a well-known Dutch newspaper, interviewed his father Martin, a former player for PEC Zwolle, FC Den Bosch, and BV Veendam, who is also his agent.
Martin, acting alone, showed up one day at Casa Milan to negotiate his son's transfer to the Rossoneri:
"I never felt uncertain about it. It's simple: I want the best for my children. I have a healthy business sense and common sense", as relayed via Milannews.it.
He added:
"I have no idea how clubs and agents who receive certain amounts organize themselves. But that's not my concern. My interest is finding the best for Tijjani. In my opinion, 90% of agents aren't that useful."
On interest from other clubs in Tijjani Reijnders:
"Tijjani was also of interest to some English clubs. This also went through intermediaries. Only at Barcelona did I speak directly with Deco, the technical director. Then I checked his profile picture to see if it was really him."
In addition to Milan, Barcelona also had their eyes on Tijjani Reijnders in the summer of 2023, the player's father said:
"Of course, it's flattering that they had him in their sights; after all, we're talking about Barça. But they were looking for a replacement for Sergio Busquets. I immediately told Tijjani: 'You are not that type of player. Before you know it, you'll end up on the bench. And you'd become yet another player who fails abroad."
