Gianluca Di Marzio, regarding the failed negotiations between Milan and Fabio Paratici, told Sky Sport Italia:
"Milan, after reaching a verbal agreement with Paratici that was to be formalized, had made its choice for the sporting director role. However, in the past few hours, further reflections were made regarding what Paratici could or could not do between now and July 20th, the date when his sporting ban expires. The negotiations would have had to be handled by Furlani, and Paratici would not have been able to speak with agents or other executives. After further consideration, Milan made a U-turn and has already informed Paratici, who was caught off guard by the Rossoneri’s decision. Now Milan will reopen the casting process and evaluate other candidates for the sporting director role."

Di Marzio added:
"At the moment, the negotiations are off, the parties have cut all ties. In football, anything can happen, but for now, the deal has collapsed. Furlani’s limited operability until July 20th led Milan to take a step back. We'll see if Igli Tare comes back into pole position — he was one of the candidates, although until recently he had not been contacted again by Milan. I believe the club will take a few days before resuming contacts and the search for a new sporting director. There has also been talk of D’Amico, but he is under contract with Atalanta, so he would have to wait until the end of the season before possibly starting to work for Milan."
